AIRPORT ADMINISTRATION
The Municipal
Airport/Wellik Field is owned and operated by the Town of
Wickenburg. Miles Johnson, Town Planner, is the Airport Manager and
is responsible for the administration of the airport. The Town of
Wickenburg contracts with a Fixed Base Operator for the daily
operation of the airport including fuel sales and line services.
The FBO offers snacks and other merchandise for sale in the terminal
and as available can provide a courtesy car. Aircraft repair,
maintenance, and painting is available from I.A. Certified Aircraft
Mechanics. Runway 5-23 is 6100’ in length. A 1000’ extension was
completed in September 2006. The Airport is an integral element in
the local economy. It serves the local guest ranches and medical
treatment facilities. The Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual “FLY
IN” and pancake breakfast the last weekend in October, but fly “Out
Wickenburg Way” anytime to enjoy the scenery, history, and shopping
in this unique high desert community.
Wickenburg
Municipal Airport has an airport advisory commission composed of
seven members. The commission is chaired by Council Member Dave
Lane. He is the elected member of the Town council, appointed by the
mayor and subject to the approval of the council. At least five of
the citizens must be residents of the Town and all members must live
within 10 miles of the Town limits. The council representative
serves a two-year term, while citizen members serve staggered
three-year terms. The commission acts in an advisory role to the
Town council, making recommendations on the use, operation, and
development of the airport.
Courtesy cars are
generally available through the Fixed Base Operator for trips into
Town where a number of fine restaurants and unique shops are
located. Rental cars can be arranged.
